Grey herringbone flooring in a bright modern hallway

Herringbone is one of the oldest flooring patterns for a reason: it turns ordinary planks into something with rhythm and depth. Done well, it draws the eye through a hallway, anchors an open-plan room, and makes a plain space feel considered.

Done badly — uneven subfloor, misaligned rows, sloppy cuts around doorways — the same pattern looks busy and cheap. That's why herringbone is a job for an experienced fitter. We prepare the subfloor properly, set out the pattern before a single plank is stuck down, and cut every border and doorway by hand so the pattern stays true right to the edge.

Most of our herringbone work is fitted in LVT — you can browse the ranges we supply in our LVT catalogue — with laminate and engineered real wood close behind. If you're weighing up the look against something softer, our carpet page covers the alternative.

Your herringbone, in three materials

The pattern is the same; what it's made from changes where it works best. We'll match the material to the room, the light and how the space is used.

Waterproof, scratch-resistant and warm underfoot — the practical choice for kitchens, hallways and busy family homes. Wood and stone effects, fitted in plank or parquet formats.

Laminate herringbone

A cost-effective route to the herringbone look for living rooms and bedrooms that stay dry. Hard-wearing finishes, available in a wide range of tones.

Engineered wood herringbone

Real timber, real presence — for living and dining rooms where you want the genuine article. Sandable, warm, and available in oak, walnut and more.
